The suggestions were – a separate legislative council of popular nature, Abolition of stamp, salt and abkari duties, reducing the salaries of British officers at higher posts, etc. In the Charter Act of 1853, one of the above suggestions was incorporated and the Governor General’s Council for Legislative purposes was expanded by adding 6 new members.
