Kargil Vijay Diwas: Remembering the Sacrifices of 1999
26th July 2023 marked the 24th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas. Every year this day is observed to pay tribute and honor to the bravery and sacrifice of the soldiers in the Indo-Pak War of 1999. The Kargil War was an unexpected intrusion by Pakistani forces into Indian territory at the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kargil district of Ladakh. As part of Operation Badr, Pakistan moved troops into Indian territory covertly and took over a portion of Kargil. Under Operation Vijay, the Indian Army fought bravely and recaptured the famous 'Tiger Hill' and other important posts by evicting the Pakistani troops. The war lasted for about three months and ended in a decisive victory for India. The Indian Navy played an important role in the Kargil War, even though its role was often overlooked.
